Men’s and Women’s Guinness World Records for “farthest distance by canoe/kayak in 24 hours on MOVING water…” on the Yukon River the third week in June. I imagine we’ll also go for the Open Water records in 2012 to complete the GWR Paddling Trifecta if we can!

Hey Gang! I finally took a pic with my Guinness World Record certificate. :) Just FYI if you’re posting it anywhere, the small print says:”The farthest distance paddled by canoe/kayak in 24 hours on flat water by a female was 195.33 km (121.37 miles) by Robyn Benincasa (USA) on Lake San Antonio, California, USA on October 28-29 2010″For our next trick, Carter and I will be simultaneously tackling the men’s and women’s Guinness World Records for “farthest distance by canoe/kayak in 24 hours on MOVING water…” on the Yukon River the third week in June. I imagine we’ll also go for the Open Water records in 2012 to complete the GWR Paddling Trifecta if we can!Hope y’all remembered daylight savings time tonight. I was *this* close to being late for work at the fire station today. :). Yay for Spring!! Xo r

Greg McHale’s Yukon Ultra Win!!

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Hey Team Merrell/Akali Fans! Here’s an awesome article in the Yukon News about Greg McHale’s record breaking run in the Toughest and Coldest Race on Earth (plus a sweet pic of our heroes!).  8+ days and 460 loooong solo miles of nearly non-stop running in sub zero temperatures on the bitter, uneven, unforgiving frozen tundra while pulling a sled. And perfect feet the whole way (CTR Cruise Gore Tex and Wigwam socks!). Oh yeah, and he set a course record on this little Whitehorse to Dawson City jaunt by over 24 hours.  Unbelievable!  THIS is the guy that should be on Regis and Kelly in the morning! I’m sure their first segment with him would involve a sanity check. :). With Denise McHale winning the Yukon Arctic Marathon (overall) that kicked off this crazy ultra, I’d have to put these kids right up there with the fittest married couples on earth. Their next adventure together will be the mixed team division in the Gore Tex Trans Rockies 150 mile ultra in August, so I guess my theory will be put to the test!

Woo hooo Greg and Denise!
